The Institute of American Language and Culture (IALC) of Fordham University is located on the seven-acre Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan, two blocks from the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, and Avery Fisher Hall, and within walking distance from Columbus Circle and Central Park.
English as a Second Language courses, offered from beginning through advanced levels, successfully prepare students for academic study in the American university system, employment in English-speaking environments, and for a sophisticated level of social interaction with native English speakers. Highly qualified and experienced faculty incorporate the study of American cultural practices into every course.
Writing and grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and vocabulary development are the language skills emphasized at all levels of instruction. A variety of content courses that focus on a particular academic subject are available to advanced level students. Content course curricula are designed to prepare ESL students for college-level work in American universities.
Classroom instruction is supplemented by the availability of Fordham University's state-of-the-art audiovisual laboratories and participation in pronunciation, grammar and TOEFL workshops.
Fordham University issues 1-20 forms for students who would like to study full-time and obtain F-1 student-visa status.
